My breakfast routine is probably the strictest part of my diet and my life. I rarely divert from this (except for on the weekends) because a) my cravings aren't as strong at 6am and b) I've made things super easy for myself.
I wake up at 6am, try and do a few sun salutations before getting ready and head out the door by 7am. Once I get to work around 8am I grab a coffee and a hardboiled egg or a banana from the place next door and head up the 6 flights of stairs. (The elevator is always tempting….)
I down my coffee while I read the paper and then grab my smoothie. This recipe has been passed down from my dad. He’s a crazy athlete, so I trust his judgment when it comes to what’s healthy.
Around 11 I usually feel my stomach grumble again, so I’ll eat the banana (usually with peanut butter, depending on my appetitive) or the hardboiled egg with some salt and peppa!
Here’s the recipe for this delicious smoothie. It’s got so much good stuff in it and by the way it tastes, you wouldn’t even know it!
Freckled Morning Smoothie
-1/2 cup frozen blueberries
-1/2 cup frozen strawberries
-1 banana
-1 handful of spinach
-1/2 cup of organic orange juice
- 3 heaping tablespoons of 0% vanilla Greek yogurt
-1 teaspoon flax seed oil
-1 teaspoon hemp powder (any kind)
-1 scoop of protein powder (anything with a strawberry or orange flavour is perfect)
Throw all the ingredients in the blender. I find that it's a good idea to put the frozen fruit in first because it's easier for the blender to break it all up.
